4.3.5 Hypnosis
The hypnotic trance is a state of heightened awareness and focused
concentration that can be used to manipulate the perception of pain and has
been effective in the treatment of cancer-related pain (Reeves, Redd, Storm, et
al., 1983; Spiegel and Bloom, 1983; Syrjala, Cummings, and Donaldson, 1992). It
should only be administered by specially trained professionals.
